Classic Appletini (Apple Martini)

Classic Appletini (Apple Martini)

On our first date, my wife ordered an appletini (she was 23; give her a break). Appletinis continue to be her “fancy drink” of choice (she’s no longer 23; judge away). As we now have little kids and aren’t often able to get out for fancy drinks, we just decided to perfect and make them at home. Honestly, they’re so easy to make, and at a fraction of the price bars and restaurants charge, this should be an at-home staple for anyone who’s a fan.

The steps here are pretty easy: mix ingredients, shake/stir (I’m a shaker and am not concerned about “bruising” the alcohol), drink responsibly. That being said, there are some things to note here:

  • Ratios in drinks are critical. 2:1 vodka to apple pucker. Scale up or down as needed.
  • Chill the glass for a few minutes beforehand; since there’s no ice in the finished product, this will help keep your drink cooler for longer.
  • Adding a tiny splash of fresh lemon juice helps balance the drink and keep it from getting too sweet/heavy.
  • While premium vodkas will result in a superior drink (I prefer Belvedere but use what you like of course), decent budget-level vodkas can also be used successfully. Pro tip: If you live near a Total Wine, their store brand vodka is Starr Blu, and it works really well here and for other mixed vodka drinks.
  • Maraschino cherry is somehow completely optional and definitely required at the same time. If you want to splurge on your garnish, see if you can find some Luxardo cherries at some higher end food or liquor shops.

Please note that this does make a stout drink, so drink responsibly. Cheers!
